Mass-migrating AI agents to Amazon Bedrock AgentCore

This article demonstrates how to migrate a fleet of 20 AI agents from Amazon Bedrock Agents Classic to Amazon Bedrock AgentCore using a pattern-first approach with parallel AI-assisted migrations, completed in approximately 2.5 hours.

  • Establish migration template by serially migrating 4 agents to define reusable standard pattern and conventions
  • Parallelize remaining 16 agent migrations using Kiro CLI subagents, completing in 42 minutes
  • Harden deployments with security scanning, removing 9,000 lines of legacy code and fixing 48 security findings
  • Reduce per-agent deployment time from 15 minutes to 4 minutes with standardized infrastructure
  • Consolidate 194 independently testable @tool functions with 265 automated tests and OpenTelemetry observability
  • Enable tool sharing across agents using Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Gateway with Model Context Protocol and Cedar access control

The pattern-first approach enables teams to migrate large agent fleets efficiently by investing in template design upfront, then parallelizing remaining migrations with AI assistance rather than manual engineering effort.
