From Days to Minutes: How we built Multi-Agent KYC/KYB on AWS

This article describes a production-ready multi-agent AI system built on AWS that automates Know Your Customer/Business (KYC/KYB) compliance checks, reducing processing time from days to minutes.

• Five independent AI agents handle adverse media screening, sanctions screening, business details validation, source of wealth assessment, and company structure resolution in parallel
• Amazon Bedrock AgentCore orchestrates multi-step agent workflows; AWS Step Functions coordinates case lifecycle; EventBridge enables real-time progress streaming
• Institutional policies stored in Bedrock Knowledge Bases are retrieved and cited by agents at runtime, enabling policy updates without code redeployment
• Deterministic code handles facts (company records, ownership calculations); AI agents handle judgment (policy application, plausibility assessment, contradiction detection)
• Each agent produces structured, evidenced verdicts with reasoning trails and policy citations for regulatory auditability and human review
• Decomposition methodology separates gathering from judging, minimizes tool usage, and defines success criteria to prevent cascading failures
• Production readiness requires evaluations against known-good cases, silent-mode testing alongside human analysts, and token-level observability for cost and quality monitoring

The system demonstrates how agentic AI can make previously unviable customer segments commercially justifiable by automating research-intensive compliance work while maintaining human accountability and regulatory transparency.
