AWS Glue Data Catalog now supports table optimization, statistics, and crawlers for Apache Iceberg Version 3 tables.

  • Compact V3 tables using binpack, sort, or z-order strategies to improve query performance
  • Remove expired snapshots and orphan files to reduce storage costs
  • Support for V3 data types including variant, geospatial, and nanosecond-precision timestamps
  • Generate NDV statistics for efficient query planning by analytics engines
  • Use Glue crawlers to discover and register V3 tables from Amazon S3 in Data Catalog

These capabilities enable automatic maintenance and optimization of Iceberg V3 tables across all supported AWS Regions.
