Build cross-account streaming pipelines with the Amazon Kinesis Producer Library and Kinesis Client Library

Big Data Blog

This article demonstrates how to build cross-account streaming pipelines using Amazon Kinesis Data Streams with the Kinesis Producer Library and Kinesis Client Library deployed across three separate AWS accounts for maximum security isolation.

  • Deploy producer, stream, and consumer in separate AWS accounts for strict security boundaries and regulatory compliance
  • Configure IAM policies, customer-managed AWS KMS keys, and resource-based policies for cross-account access
  • KPL aggregates records and handles retries; KCL 3.5 auto-discovers shards and coordinates leases via DynamoDB
  • Stream owner pre-registers Enhanced Fan-Out consumers and shares consumer ARNs for dedicated per-shard throughput
  • Reference implementation uses CloudFormation templates across three accounts with end-to-end testing and monitoring
  • KCL 3.5 consolidates tracking into a single DynamoDB table, reducing costs and operational complexity

The solution enables enterprise-scale real-time streaming with maximum security isolation while maintaining high throughput and sub-second latency across account boundaries.
