Bring AWS Transform into GitHub Copilot with MCP
.NET on AWS Blog
This article explains how to integrate AWS Transform (ATX) with GitHub Copilot via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to automate application transformations directly within your IDE.
- AWS Transform MCP server exposes topology analysis, orchestrated transformation jobs, and gap surfacing capabilities to Copilot agent mode
- Install ATX CLI, configure AWS credentials, and register the MCP server in Copilot's mcp.json configuration file
- Transform Azure Functions (.NET Isolated Worker model) to AWS Lambda using Lambda Annotations Framework with HTTP, Queue, and Blob triggers
- Copilot requests human approval for destructive actions (push, merge, delete) before executing transformations
- Convert completed transformations into reusable Agent Skills (SKILL.md) for portable, cross-tool execution without cloud API calls
- Deploy transformed Lambda functions using AWS SAM (sam build, sam validate, sam deploy)
The integration enables end-to-end cloud migrations from within your IDE, combining Copilot's chat interface with AWS Transform's agentic AI capabilities for topology-aware, orchestrated transformations.
