Deploy Oracle Database step by step on Amazon EVS with FSx for ONTAP
Architecture Blog
This article provides step-by-step procedures to deploy Oracle Database on Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS) with Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP as NFS datastore storage.
- Provision Oracle VM on EVS with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 or Oracle Linux 8
- Create FSx for ONTAP volumes for Oracle binaries, data files, and redo/archive logs
- Mount FSx for ONTAP NFS datastores in vSphere and create VMDKs for Oracle storage
- Install Oracle 19c on XFS filesystems backed by FSx for ONTAP NFS datastores
- Configure SnapMirror replication for cross-region disaster recovery
- Deploy SnapCenter for Oracle-aware backup and point-in-time recovery
- Four migration paths: VMware HCX live migration, SnapMirror ONTAP-to-ONTAP, Oracle PDB relocation, or RMAN backup/restore
- Day-2 operations include snapshot backup, point-in-time recovery, database cloning, and HA failover
Enterprises can deploy Oracle on EVS while preserving existing VMware workflows without rearchitecting, with integrated disaster recovery and backup capabilities.
