Amazon ECR now supports replication backfill for existing container images

News

Amazon ECR now supports replication backfill, enabling replication of existing images in private registries to configured replication destinations.

  • Replicate full image catalogs to new or existing destinations with a single API call
  • Previously required manual retagging to replicate preexisting images after enabling replication
  • Run up to ten backfill jobs concurrently with progress monitoring through new APIs
  • Stop jobs at any time without deleting already-replicated images
  • Useful for expanding to new regions, validating disaster recovery, and ensuring compliance
  • Available in all AWS Regions where Amazon ECR is available

Replication backfill simplifies container image management across multiple AWS Regions and destinations.
