Amazon SQS introduces new Amazon CloudWatch metrics for FIFO queues

News

This article introduces two new Amazon CloudWatch metrics for Amazon SQS FIFO queues to provide better visibility into FIFO queue usage.

Specifically, the article covers:

  • The new metric "NumberOfDeduplicatedSentMessages" tracks the number of messages sent to a FIFO queue that were deduplicated.
  • The new metric "ApproximateNumberOfGroupsWithInflightMessages" tracks the approximate number of message groups with messages that have been received but not yet deleted.
  • These metrics can help troubleshoot and optimize FIFO queue throughput by identifying duplicate messages and potential bottlenecks.
  • The metrics are available per queue and can be accessed through the SQS and CloudWatch consoles in all AWS regions where SQS is available.
