Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL now supports pgvector 0.8.0, an open-source extension for storing and efficiently querying vector embeddings in databases for generative AI applications.

  • Supports pgvector on PostgreSQL versions 12.21 and higher
  • Includes improvements to query planner and index selection
  • Introduces iterative index scans to prevent 'overfiltering'
  • Enhances performance for searching and building HNSW indexes
  • Enables retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for AI applications

This update allows developers to more efficiently manage and query vector embeddings in PostgreSQL databases, improving search performance and result quality for AI-powered applications.
