Amazon Q Developer transformation capabilities for mainframe modernization are now available (Preview)

• Agents can analyze and document code bases, identify missing assets, and decompose monolithic applications
• Enables natural language interaction to share transformation objectives and project context
• Autonomously creates comprehensive code documentation
• Can refactor COBOL code into cloud-optimized Java code while preserving business logic
• Provides collaborative review and approval process for modernization plans

The new capabilities aim to accelerate mainframe application modernization by using generative AI to handle complex transformation tasks, allowing teams to drive faster, higher-quality modernization efforts with improved governance.
