How ANZ Institutional Division built a federated data platform to enable their domain teams to build data products to support business outcomes

Big Data Blog

ANZ Institutional Division has transformed its data management approach by implementing a federated data platform using a data mesh architecture, aimed at enabling domain teams to build and manage data products more effectively.

  • Shifted from centralized data management to a decentralized, product-oriented model
  • Empowered domain teams to own and create their own data products
  • Implemented a self-service data platform using AWS services like Amazon DataZone, Amazon S3, and Amazon Redshift
  • Adopted four key principles: domain ownership, data as a product, self-serve platform, and federated computational governance
  • Focused on improving data quality, agility, and innovation across the organization

The new approach allows ANZ to unlock approximately $150 million in untapped data potential, improve operational efficiency, and create a more data-driven, customer-centric organization.
