AWS Network Firewall Geographic IP Filtering launch

Security Blog

AWS has launched Geographic IP Filtering for AWS Network Firewall, a new feature that allows customers to filter network traffic based on geographic location.

  • Enables blocking or allowing traffic from specific countries
  • Automatically updates IP address databases from IANA
  • Supports both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic
  • Available in all AWS Regions where Network Firewall is supported
  • Can be configured via AWS Management Console, CLI, SDK, or API

The feature helps organizations meet compliance requirements and enhance network security by controlling traffic from specific geographic regions. It uses MaxMind GeoIP databases to determine the location of IP addresses.
