Amazon RDS Proxy now supports the caching_sha2_password authentication plugin for MySQL on Aurora and RDS, enhancing security and alignment with community MySQL 8.4 standards.

  • Caching_sha2_password is now the default authentication plugin for new RDS Proxy connections
  • Supports all available RDS for MySQL and Aurora MySQL versions
  • Can be configured via RDS Management Console, AWS SDK, or CLI
  • Available in all AWS Commercial Regions
  • Improves application scalability, resiliency, and security

This update provides a more secure authentication method for database connections through RDS Proxy, following the latest MySQL community standards.
