A deep dive into Amazon EKS Hybrid Nodes
Containers Blog
AWS has announced the general availability of Amazon EKS Hybrid Nodes, a new feature that allows users to use their existing on-premises and edge infrastructure as nodes in Amazon EKS clusters, creating a unified Kubernetes management experience.
- Enables connecting existing on-premises infrastructure to a managed EKS control plane in the cloud
- Supports Amazon Linux 2023, Ubuntu, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems
- Requires network connectivity between on-premises environment and AWS VPC
- Uses a "bring your own infrastructure" approach with temporary AWS IAM credentials
- Supports various EKS add-ons and features like CoreDNS, Prometheus, and IAM Roles for Service Accounts
The feature aims to simplify Kubernetes management across cloud, on-premises, and edge environments, reducing operational complexity and enabling easier modernization of applications.
