Amazon EC2 now supports automated recovery of Microsoft SQL Server with VSS

News

Amazon EC2 has introduced a new feature for automated recovery of Microsoft SQL Server databases using Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) based EBS snapshots.

  • Allows backup of application data while databases are running
  • Uses AWS Systems Manager Automation Runbook for recovery
  • Enables specification of restore time points
  • Supports rapid database recovery within minutes
  • Offers flexibility to restore to a new database or perform point-in-time recovery
  • Available in all commercial AWS Regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions

This feature simplifies Microsoft SQL Server database recovery by providing an automated, non-disruptive method to restore databases with minimal downtime.
