AWS has announced the general availability of VPC Route Server, a new service that simplifies dynamic routing between virtual appliances in Amazon VPC.
- Enables advertising routing information through Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
- Dynamically updates VPC route tables associated with subnets and internet gateway
- Eliminates the need for custom scripts or virtual routers with overlay networks
- Allows deployment of endpoints that can peer with virtual appliances to advertise routes
- Filters received routes using standard BGP attributes
- Available in multiple AWS regions including US East, US West, Europe, and Asia Pacific
VPC Route Server provides a managed solution for dynamically updating routes, making it easier to manage network routing and quickly address appliance failures.
