Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL now supports pgvector 0.8.0, an open-source extension for vector embedding storage and similarity search in databases.

  • Enables semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) AI applications
  • Improves PostgreSQL query planner and index selection performance
  • Enhances data filtering using WHERE clauses and joins
  • Implements iterative index scans to prevent 'overfiltering'
  • Performance improvements for HNSW index searching and building

Available in Aurora PostgreSQL versions 16.8, 15.12, 14.17, and 13.20+ across AWS Regions, supporting advanced AI and search capabilities.
