Load Balancer Capacity Unit Reservation for Gateway Load Balancers
News
AWS has announced Load Balancer Capacity Unit (LCU) Reservation for Gateway Load Balancers (GWLB), enabling users to proactively set a minimum bandwidth capacity for their load balancers.
- Allows reservation of guaranteed capacity for anticipated traffic surges
- Useful for onboarding and migrating new workloads without waiting for organic scaling
- Helps maintain minimum bandwidth for firewall applications to meet SLA or compliance requirements
- Users pay only for reserved LCUs and additional usage above reservation
- Configurable through ELB console or API
The feature is available in multiple AWS regions, excluding Gateway Load Balancer Endpoint (GWLBe), providing more predictable performance for third-party virtual appliance deployments.
