New AWS Fault Injection Service recovery action for zonal autoshift

AWS Cloud Operations Blog

AWS has introduced a new recovery action in AWS Fault Injection Service (FIS) for Amazon Application Recovery Controller (ARC) zonal autoshift, enabling more comprehensive testing of application resilience during Availability Zone (AZ) disruptions.

  • Allows creation of disruptive events that trigger zonal autoshift
  • Helps test how applications respond during AZ impairments
  • Simulates complete power interruption in an AZ
  • Provides new configuration options for targeting specific resources
  • Enables testing of traffic shifting mechanisms without additional costs

This integration helps organizations validate their application's fault tolerance, discover potential weaknesses, and improve overall system reliability by simulating realistic infrastructure disruptions.
