A Guide to the New Resource Policies for SMS Origination Identities in AWS

Messaging & Targeting Blog

AWS End User Messaging has introduced new resource policies for SMS origination identities, affecting Amazon SNS and Amazon Pinpoint's SMS messaging capabilities. These changes aim to enhance security and control over SMS communication.

  • Existing origination identities created before September 24, 2024, will continue functioning without disruption
  • New origination identities require explicit resource policies for SMS sending
  • Resource policies define permissions for using SMS origination identities
  • Without proper permissions, users may encounter messaging errors or use shared routes
  • Resource policies can be configured for both phone numbers and Sender IDs

Users must update their SMS configurations by adding resource policies that grant permissions to Amazon Pinpoint and SNS services to ensure smooth messaging operations.
