AWS has introduced new features for SMS Protect to help combat Artificially Inflated Traffic (AIT), a growing threat in SMS messaging that cost businesses over $1 billion in 2023.
- Two new capabilities introduced: Filter and Monitor modes
- Filter mode automatically blocks messages exhibiting AIT patterns
- Monitor mode provides insights and recommendations without blocking messages
- No message fees are charged for blocked messages in Filter mode
- Recommended steps include blocking countries where you don't do business and creating account-level Filter configurations
The new features are part of a multilayered security approach to protect businesses from SMS fraud, offering granular control and visibility into potentially malicious messaging traffic.
