Amazon S3 Tables now support server-side encryption using AWS KMS with customer-managed keys

News

Amazon S3 Tables now support server-side encryption using AWS Key Management Service (SSE-KMS) with customer-managed keys, offering enhanced security and compliance options for data storage.

  • Allows users to use their own KMS keys to encrypt tables in S3 buckets
  • Provides flexible encryption options:
    • Set a default customer-managed key for all new tables
    • Set a dedicated key per table
    • Combine both approaches
  • Uses S3 Bucket Keys by default for cost optimization
  • Includes AWS CloudTrail logging for key usage auditing
  • Available in all AWS Regions where S3 Tables are supported

This enhancement gives customers more control over data encryption and helps meet regulatory and governance requirements.
