AWS Account Management now supports IAM-based account name updates

AWS has introduced a new account management API that allows updating account names using IAM principals, enhancing account management capabilities for AWS Organizations customers.

  • Customers can now update account names without root access
  • Authorized IAM principals can manage account names within an account
  • AWS Organizations customers can update member account names centrally
  • The API is available via AWS CLI and SDK
  • No additional charge for this feature in commercial and China AWS Regions

This update provides a more flexible and secure approach to managing account names across AWS Organizations, reducing the dependency on root account access.
