Intelligent coding at your fingertips: Introducing an agentic coding experience in your IDE

DevOps & Developer Productivity Blog

AWS has introduced a new agentic coding experience in Amazon Q Developer for integrated development environments (IDEs), specifically in VS Code, with more IDE support coming soon. This feature enhances developer productivity through advanced AI-powered interactions.

  • Allows natural language interactions to read, write, and modify code locally
  • Supports running bash commands, building code, and executing complex workflows
  • Enables direct interaction with development environments and AWS resources
  • Provides two modes: traditional chat for planning and agentic coding for building
  • Demonstrates capabilities like creating CDK projects, adding Lambda functions, and listing AWS resources

The new experience streamlines coding by allowing developers to use natural language commands to generate, modify, and manage code and infrastructure, with built-in permission controls and change tracking.
