Amazon EBS has announced the general availability of Provisioned Rate for Volume Initialization, a new feature designed to improve performance and predictability when creating volumes from snapshots.

  • Enables faster and more predictable Amazon EC2 instance launches at scale
  • Allows users to specify volume initialization rates when creating new volumes
  • Supports initialization during snapshot restoration, AMI launches, and root volume replacements
  • Available in all AWS commercial and GovCloud (US) Regions
  • Accessible through AWS Console, CLI, SDKs, and CloudFormation

The feature helps minimize workload startup time by ensuring volumes are fully performant within a predictable timeframe, particularly when launching multiple instances simultaneously.
