Introducing Strands Agents, an Open Source AI Agents SDK

Open Source Blog

AWS has announced Strands Agents, an open-source SDK for building AI agents with a model-driven approach. The SDK simplifies agent development by leveraging advanced language models to plan, reason, and use tools.

  • Allows developers to create AI agents in just a few lines of code
  • Supports multiple models from providers like Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, and Ollama
  • Enables agents to dynamically plan steps and use tools autonomously
  • Provides pre-built tools for tasks like semantic search and multi-agent collaboration
  • Supports various deployment architectures for production use

Developed by AWS engineers who worked on Amazon Q Developer, Strands Agents aims to reduce complexity in AI agent development and accelerate time-to-market for new agent applications.
