Strands Agents 1.0 is an open-source SDK for building and managing multi-agent AI systems with simplified orchestration and production-ready features.
- Introduces four key multi-agent primitives:
- Agents-as-Tools: Hierarchical delegation
- Handoffs: Explicit control transfer
- Swarms: Self-organizing collaborative teams
- Graphs: Deterministic workflow control
- Supports Agent-to-Agent (A2A) protocol for cross-platform communication
- Provides session management for state persistence
- Offers native async support and improved performance
- Expanded model provider support including Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, and others
The release aims to make multi-agent AI systems more accessible, flexible, and production-ready, with community contributions playing a significant role in its development.
