AWS Transfer Family announces ML-KEM quantum-resistant key exchange for SFTP

News

AWS Transfer Family has introduced ML-KEM (FIPS-203), a quantum-resistant key exchange algorithm for SFTP file transfers, designed to protect data against future quantum computing threats.

  • Supports post-quantum (PQ) hybrid security policies
  • Combines classical Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman with quantum-resistant ML-KEM key exchanges
  • Compatible with clients like OpenSSH, Putty, and JSch
  • Available in all AWS Regions with AWS Transfer Family
  • Replaces previous pre-standardized quantum key exchange methods

This enhancement provides enhanced security for file transfers that require long-term confidentiality against potential future quantum decryption threats.
