Use Model Context Protocol with Amazon Q Developer for context-aware IDE workflows

DevOps & Developer Productivity Blog

AWS has announced Model Context Protocol (MCP) support for Amazon Q Developer in IDE plugins for Visual Studio Code and JetBrains, enabling more context-aware development workflows.

  • MCP is an open protocol for standardizing Large Language Model integrations with applications
  • Allows developers to connect external tools directly to Q Developer
  • Enables context sharing across multiple platforms like Jira and Figma
  • Supports adding tools without custom integration code
  • Allows developers to fetch and interact with external tool data seamlessly

The new feature enhances developer productivity by providing a unified workflow across different development tools, allowing Q Developer to automatically retrieve and utilize context from various sources during software development.
