Introducing security group referencing and enhanced DNS support for AWS Cloud WAN

Networking & Content Delivery Blog

AWS has introduced new features for AWS Cloud WAN, including security group referencing and enhanced DNS support, which provide more flexible and dynamic network security configurations across VPCs.

  • Allows referencing security groups across VPCs within the same AWS Region and core network
  • Enables dynamic security rule management without hard-coding IP addresses
  • Supports creating inbound security rules referencing security groups in other VPCs
  • Provides new DNS support for resolving public EC2 hostnames to private IP addresses across VPCs
  • Requires enabling support at both core network and VPC attachment levels

Key use cases include securely connecting application tiers, providing shared service access, and implementing cross-account access controls with granular network segmentation.
