AWS has announced general availability of Security Group (SG) Referencing and enhanced DNS support for AWS Cloud WAN, offering improved network management and connectivity features.
- Security Group Referencing allows specifying security groups as reference rules for cross-VPC traffic control
- Enables easier network traffic management without reconfiguring rules as applications scale
- Single security group rule can cover thousands of instances
- Enhanced DNS support allows resolving public DNS hostnames to private IP addresses
- Features available in all AWS Regions supporting Cloud WAN
- Can be enabled through AWS Management Console, CLI, and SDK
- No additional charges for these features
These enhancements simplify network operations and provide more flexible, scalable security group management across VPCs connected via Cloud WAN.
