AWS WAF has announced general availability of resource-level DDoS protection for Application Load Balancers (ALBs), offering enhanced security against distributed denial of service attacks.

  • Integrated directly with ALB as an on-host agent
  • Detects and mitigates DDoS attacks within seconds
  • Built on existing IP reputation rule groups
  • Can rate limit traffic based on client IP and proxy network addresses
  • Configurable to be active continuously or during high load conditions
  • Available in all supported AWS Regions

This new feature provides rapid protection against known attack sources while maintaining service quality for legitimate traffic.
