Amazon has announced significant cost reductions for S3 Tables compaction operations for Apache Iceberg tables, with processing fees dropping by up to 90%.
- Per-object price reduced by 50%
- Per-byte processing prices lowered:
- Binpack compaction: 90% reduction
- Sort compaction: 80% reduction
- Z-order compaction: 80% reduction
- Three automated compaction strategies available:
- Binpack: basic file optimization
- Sort: organize data by specific columns
- Z-order: optimize multi-column queries
- Price reductions effective July 1, 2025, across all AWS Regions
The update aims to improve query performance and reduce storage costs for analytics workloads.
