Amazon SQS increases maximum message payload size to 1 MiB

Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS) has expanded its maximum message payload size from 256 KiB to 1 MiB, providing significant improvements for message queuing services.

  • Supports larger data exchanges for microservices, distributed systems, and serverless applications
  • Enables sending and receiving larger messages without data offloading or message splitting
  • AWS Lambda event source mapping updated to support 1 MiB payloads
  • Available across all AWS commercial Regions and AWS GovCloud (US)
  • Supports both standard and FIFO queue types

This enhancement addresses evolving customer needs in application integration, IoT, and AI, allowing more efficient data transfer through message queues.
