Amazon SNS now supports message payloads up to 1 MiB

News

Amazon SNS now supports message payloads up to 1 MiB, a 4x increase from the previous 256 KiB limit, enabling larger messages for microservices and distributed systems.

  • Message payload limit increased from 256 KiB to 1 MiB for both SNS Standard and FIFO topics
  • Set MaximumMessageSize topic attribute to enable larger payloads on existing topics
  • Supports Amazon SQS, Amazon Data Firehose, and AWS Lambda subscriptions with up to 100 total subscriptions per topic
  • Available in all AWS Regions where Amazon SNS is available
  • Eliminates need to offload or split payloads for application integration, IoT, and generative AI workloads

This enhancement allows customers to publish larger messages directly to SNS topics without payload splitting, improving efficiency for data-intensive applications.
