Amazon Athena now supports CREATE TABLE AS SELECT with Amazon S3 Tables

News

Amazon Athena now supports CREATE TABLE AS SELECT (CTAS) statements with Amazon S3 Tables, enabling users to easily create and populate new tables from query results.

  • CTAS allows converting datasets in Parquet, CSV, JSON, and other formats into fully-managed tables
  • Supports Apache Iceberg, Hudi, and Delta Lake formats
  • Enables on-the-fly data partitioning for optimized query performance
  • Allows users to analyze data, JOIN with other datasets, and perform INSERT and UPDATE operations
  • Available in all AWS Regions that support Athena and S3 Tables

This feature streamlines data management by simplifying table creation and optimization in a single SQL statement.
