Introducing an Improved BYOL Image Import Process for Amazon WorkSpaces

Desktop & Application Streaming Blog

AWS has introduced an improved Bring Your Own License (BYOL) image import process for Amazon WorkSpaces to help administrators migrate from Windows 10 to Windows 11 virtual desktops.

  • Self-service BYOL enablement eliminates the need to open Premium Support cases
  • Users can now import custom Windows images, ISOs, and existing AMIs directly
  • EC2 Image Builder automatically creates a pipeline to build, test, and resolve compatibility issues
  • Three import options available: VM Import, ISO Import, and AMI Import
  • Account linking can now be done directly in the WorkSpaces Console

The new process simplifies desktop virtualization by providing a more streamlined approach to importing and managing custom Windows images for WorkSpaces.
