Amazon Q Developer now supports MCP admin control

Amazon Q Developer now supports Model Context Protocol (MCP) administrative controls, allowing organizations to manage external resources more securely.

  • Administrators can enable or disable MCP servers through the AWS console
  • When disabled, users cannot add new MCP servers or initialize existing ones
  • Q Developer checks and applies admin settings at session start and every 24 hours
  • Supports admin control across multiple platforms including CLI, VSCode, JetBrains, Visual Studio, and Eclipse

This feature provides granular control for organizations to manage Q Developer's external resource functionality safely and effectively.
