Amazon Q Developer has announced support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) in its IDE plugins, expanding development workflow capabilities.
- MCP is an open protocol for securely accessing external tools, data sources, and APIs
- Developers can now add external tools to Q Developer through MCP servers
- Supports stdio transport layer for tool integration
- Available in Visual Studio Code and JetBrains IDE plugins, as well as CLI
- Allows for more customized AI responses by orchestrating tasks across tools
This update enables developers to extend Q Developer's capabilities by integrating additional context and tools into their IDE workflow.
