General Availability Release of the Migration Tool for the AWS SDK for Java 2.x

Developer Tools Blog

AWS has released a general availability migration tool for the AWS SDK for Java, helping developers transition from Java SDK 1.x to 2.x before the end-of-support date of December 31, 2025.

  • Uses OpenRewrite to automate code refactoring for service SDK clients
  • Supports transforming code for Amazon S3 TransferManager
  • Available for both Maven and Gradle projects
  • Offers two modes: dry run (preview changes) and run (apply changes)
  • Requires manual migration for some features like DynamoDB mapper and specific code patterns

Developers should carefully review transformed code, run tests, and manually update unsupported code patterns after using the migration tool.
