Introducing URL and host header rewrite with AWS Application Load Balancers

Networking & Content Delivery Blog

AWS has announced the general availability of URL and host header rewriting capabilities for Application Load Balancers (ALBs), providing enhanced routing and traffic management features.

  • Enables native regex matching on request parameters
  • Allows rewriting of URLs and host headers without custom application logic
  • Supports path transformations and complex routing scenarios
  • Eliminates need for third-party proxy solutions
  • Particularly beneficial for Kubernetes and multi-language application migrations

Key benefits include simplified infrastructure, reduced maintenance overhead, lower costs, and decreased latency by consolidating routing functions directly into the ALB service.
