EKS marks the spot: scaling Circle’s blockchain nodes with a modern Kubernetes stack

Blog

Circle, a global financial technology firm, shares its approach to scaling blockchain node infrastructure using Amazon EKS and various AWS services. Key highlights of their solution include:

  • Using Karpenter for dynamic instance provisioning and cluster autoscaling
  • Leveraging StatefulSets with AWS EBS CSI driver for persistent storage
  • Developing a custom Nodeset CRD and Blockchain Controller to manage node lifecycles
  • Creating a custom Blockchain Monitor to ensure node health and consistency
  • Implementing high-availability ingress with Traefik Proxy and AWS Network Load Balancer

The architecture enables Circle to operate nodes across multiple blockchains efficiently, reducing manual maintenance and allowing focus on innovation and solving complex challenges.
