AWS introduces the CLI Agent Orchestrator (CAO), an open-source multi-agent orchestration framework that transforms developer CLI tools into a collaborative system for complex software development projects.
- Enables multiple specialized AI agents to work together on complex tasks
- Features hierarchical orchestration with a supervisor agent and worker agents
- Provides session-based isolation and intelligent task delegation
- Supports three orchestration patterns: Handoff, Assign, and Send Message
- Maintains strong privacy by operating entirely in the local environment
Currently supports Amazon Q Developer CLI and Claude Code, with plans to expand to other developer CLI tools. The framework aims to solve complex development challenges by coordinating specialized agents across different disciplines.
