A Guide to Sending International SMS with US Toll-Free Numbers and AWS End User Messaging

Messaging & Targeting Blog

AWS End User Messaging now supports sending international SMS messages using US Toll-Free Numbers (TFNs) to over 150 countries, providing businesses with a simplified global messaging solution.

  • Enables sending one-way transactional messages like OTPs and shipping notifications globally
  • Can be enabled for new or existing US Toll-Free Numbers via console or AWS CLI
  • No additional monthly fees for international sending capability
  • Two-way SMS only supported in US and Canada
  • Delivery is on a "best-effort" basis for international destinations

Ideal for businesses wanting to rapidly prototype and test messaging strategies in new markets without procuring country-specific numbers, but not a complete replacement for dedicated international phone numbers.
