AWS has announced the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, a new independent cloud infrastructure designed to meet European public sector and highly regulated industry sovereignty and compliance requirements.

  • €7.8 billion investment in infrastructure and jobs
  • First Region will launch in Brandenburg, Germany by end of 2025
  • Dedicated physical infrastructure with multiple Availability Zones
  • Logical isolation from existing AWS Regions
  • Ensures customer data remains within EU boundaries
  • Distinct corporate structure under EU law
  • Provides full AWS service portfolio with sovereign controls

The cloud aims to deliver sovereign control and operational autonomy while maintaining AWS's standard security, performance, and innovation capabilities.
