Introducing AWS Site-to-Site VPN 5 Gbps Tunnels to support high throughput workloads
Networking & Content Delivery Blog
This article announces AWS Site-to-Site VPN now supports 5 Gbps bandwidth per tunnel, a 4x improvement from the previous 1.25 Gbps limit.
- 5 Gbps per tunnel bandwidth for high-capacity hybrid applications and disaster recovery
- Reduces need for complex ECMP protocols to bond multiple tunnels
- Supported on Transit Gateway VPN and AWS Cloud WAN VPN, not Virtual Gateway
- Configure tunnel bandwidth as Standard (1.25 Gbps) or Large (5 Gbps) at connection level
- Upgrade or downgrade between Standard and Large by creating new connection and deleting old
- ECMP can combine multiple 5 Gbps tunnels for even higher throughput (e.g., 20 Gbps)
- Ideal for data center connectivity, Direct Connect backup, and bandwidth-intensive workloads
AWS Site-to-Site VPN's 5 Gbps tunnel support simplifies high-bandwidth hybrid connectivity while reducing operational complexity.
