This article introduces AWS Interconnect – multicloud, a new service enabling private, managed Layer 3 connectivity between AWS and other cloud providers through pre-provisioned capacity at global Points of Presence.
- Eliminates manual cross-connects; API-driven provisioning between AWS and Google Cloud
- Pre-built capacity pools between select Direct Connect and Google Cloud Interconnect PoPs
- All traffic uses MACsec encryption; flows through private cloud provider backbones
- Available in five region pairs; more regions coming; free 1 Gbps preview connection per account
- Three reference architectures: single VPC with VGW, regional aggregation with Transit Gateway, global with Cloud WAN
- Supports multiple Interconnects for high availability and optimized latency across regions
- Open specification released on GitHub for other cloud providers to integrate
