Amazon CloudWatch now supports OpenTelemetry metrics in public preview

News

This article announces that Amazon CloudWatch now supports native OpenTelemetry (OTel) metrics in public preview, allowing direct metric ingestion via OTLP without custom conversion.

  • Send OTel metrics directly to CloudWatch without additional tooling or conversion logic
  • Combine custom OTel metrics with AWS vended metrics from 70+ services
  • Query all metrics using PromQL for unified dashboards and alarms
  • Correlate metrics across hybrid environments (EKS and on-premises)
  • CloudWatch anomaly detection works with OTel metrics automatically
  • Query Studio provides new PromQL console experience for writing queries and building dashboards
  • Available in preview across five AWS regions with no preview charges

CloudWatch now natively supports OpenTelemetry metrics, simplifying multi-environment monitoring and enabling unified observability across hybrid infrastructure without additional agents.
