Introducing granular cost attribution for Amazon Bedrock
Machine Learning Blog
This article announces granular cost attribution for Amazon Bedrock, enabling automatic tracking of inference costs by IAM principal with optional tagging for aggregation.
- Bedrock automatically attributes inference costs to the IAM principal making the call
- Costs appear in AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR 2.0) with no additional resources needed
- Optional cost allocation tags enable aggregation by team, project, or custom dimensions
- Four scenarios covered: IAM users/API keys, IAM roles, federated authentication, and LLM gateways
- Tags flow to billing within 24-48 hours and appear in AWS Cost Explorer for analysis
- Per-user session management required for LLM gateway scenarios to track individual users
- Feature available now in commercial regions at no additional cost
Organizations can now track Bedrock inference spending by user or application, enabling chargebacks, cost optimization, and financial planning without workflow changes.
