This article announces the end-of-support for Amazon Q Developer IDE plugins, with transition to Kiro, a new agentic development environment.

  • Amazon Q Developer IDE plugins reach end-of-support April 30, 2027
  • New Q Developer signups blocked starting May 15, 2026
  • Opus 4.6 model removed May 29, 2026; latest models exclusive to Kiro
  • Kiro is spec-driven IDE/CLI with automated hooks and custom subagents
  • Q Developer in AWS Console and first-party AWS experiences unaffected
  • Existing customers retain IDE plugin access through transition period
  • Critical bugfixes continue during 12-month transition window

AWS is sunsetting Q Developer IDE plugins in favor of Kiro, a purpose-built agentic development environment offering spec-driven development capabilities.
